Since Mike deleted the old one, I'm starting a new one. Did 80 miles today. It was the best cycling weather I've experienced since getting a bike. Absolutely perfect. I accidentally didn't get up on time (had my phone, which is my alarm, on silent and didn't know), and rushed out the door, forgetting that I didn't take the new saddle off my bike and also forgetting chamois cream. I got lucky and think this saddle is a winner. No issues at all. My butt and bits apparently like leather saddles. I road with my "team" from the Smart Ride, and this week, there were some stronger riders, so averaged 17-18 going north in the headwind, and 20-22 coming back south. Real…

I know near nothing about amps to power speakers - i just use my Marantz 2226 and be done with it. But these do appeal to my vintage tooth... http://stereos.about.com/od/amplifierreviews/tp/classic_tubes.htm

I got my wife the Canon digital Rebel XTi and a Quantaray 70/300 lens for her birthday about a month ago. She needs a case and nothing at Wolfs is cutting it. Any leads to where I can find a nice one?

hey y'all I was just looking around, trying to figure out how loud (objectively) I listen to my music. I saw spl meters, and was wondering if those worked for headphones, like the HD650. If those do work for that application, which meter should I get? I was looking at the Radio Shack brand one, or this one: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Extech-407730-Decibel-Digital-Sound/dp/B000EWY67W/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_2]Amazon.com: Extech 407730 40 Decibel to 130 Decibel Digital Sound Level Meter: Home Improvement[/ame] Let me know what's what. Thanks

So I'm in need of a component rack of some kind. As it stands I have my turntable on a random wood end table, and the rest of my gear splayed across my computer desk. The desk is way too cluttered, and whenever I do decide on a dac there won't be any room for it. So I need to once again buy some sort of equipment rack. The current most obvious choice is a Salamander Archetype: http://www.amazon.com/Salamander-A5-Archetype-5-0-Black/dp/B0006VPUMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391319380&sr=8-1&keywords=salamander+archetype I'd opt for the upgraded cherry model because it looks nicer. However, I dread putting the damn thing together and leveling all the sh…

Anyone willing to assist in picking up and shipping a set of speakers located in Lafayette (just outside Walnut Creek)? They are average two-piece tower speakers that should fit easily in most SUV/Truck/Van. I will pay for your time and shipping/packing at a local UPS store. Shot me a PM and I can forward more details.

EOSD1426 by drjlo1, on Flickr The 13.3" Vaio Ultrabook certainly looks great and is very portable (compared to the 15.6" Asus), which is why I bought it. But after messing around with Windows 8, I just could NOT stand it. Bypassing Win 8 by installing "Skip Metro Suite" and "Classic Shell" is highly recommended.

I think it's time for me to finally pick up a RCM. I've been using a dry brush mostly because all the vinyl I buy is new, but I'm starting to buy more and more used. Any suggestions? A used VPI HW-16 looks like a decent option that can always be upgraded to the HW-16.5, but I have no idea if the older model had any problems. Any comments, suggestions, or other recommendations? Thanks.

I'll start. Father Postjack (since he's clearly the priest in this arena) I have sinned, I said no stats in '08. I bought 3, and should have kept the Lambda/SRM combo.

I've been wanting to dive into the realm of digital SLR for a while now and with our trusty point-and-shoot getting bit long in the tooth/temperamental (along with wanting to have a decent camera before the baby arrives), I figured this is as good a time as any to do it. For the budget, I'd like to keep it at/around $1K. I'd appreciate any recommendations/suggestions. Thanks.

Does anyone have a strong recommendation for an office chair? I currently have an Aeron which I like well enough, so getting a second is not out of the question. However, I am interested if there are others people like better. I used to have a Knoll Bulldog which I did not really like as it was too bulky and just didn't fit right. I was looking at the Steelcase Think for no particular reason other than it just seemed to stand out. The Think or Aeron are at the absolute top of the price range -- cheaper would be better.

I've been meaning to make a thread about this for over a year at this point. Last July I bought a Lord dual edge razor. It was like $12 and worth about as much as I paid for it. I also bought a 100 pack of Astra Platinum blades. Astras are made by Gillette in Russia. They offer a decent, but not amazing shave. The quality control is about as good as one might expect. After a few tentative weeks, I stopped using spray shaving cream and bought a Van Der Hagen brush, soap and bowl set. Unsurprisingly, shaving soap offers a much better experience than canned foam. I also invested in some pre-shave glycerine soap as well as some post-shave products (an alum block and b…

I have bunch of SACD-hybrid discs that came in rounded corner case (if you've seen or have one, you know what I'm talking about). Some of them, unfortunately, have cracks or otherwise have some damage on them. Anyone know if or where one could purchase those SACD-hybrid cases?

Oh, snap! Has anyone noticed that today Facebook has changed their photo viewer, so that when you click on a photo to view, the bottom of the photo is cut off in order to display an ad at the lower right corner. Only way to view the entire photo is to keep pushing control/- to make the photo small. Absolute FAIL and shows where Facebook is headed! http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10100503334101314

A friend who is into music but not up to speed on gear and not an audiophile wants a new system but doesn't know what to get. He is looking for a new stereo/home theater setup that can also feed a couple of other rooms. He installed speaker wire and CAT5 cable to various spots when he remodeled awhile back and now wants to take more advantage of the multi-room music idea. The primary location will be a living room 5.1 home theater setup that will double as his 2-channel stereo listening location. He also has speakers for the den/kitchen, a back deck, and an upstairs bedroom that he would like to be able to play as a separate zone or zones from the living room/HT. He w…

I'm starting a new thread so it doesn't get lost in the main one. If others think this should be more appropriately placed in the off-topic forum, I'll move it, but I was just thinking to keep the two threads somewhat together. Anyway, I like goals. Without them, I do nothing but talk about doing things. I'm going to keep mine simple and, barring more injuries, do-able. 1. 4000 miles. That's about 83 mile a week. Highly do-able. 2. I want to increase my speed to be able to hang with a paceline for more than 10 miles at 20+ mph. 3. I want to learn how to ride hills. I still can't stand and pedal, and descending, however much I like it, scares me. …

Sorry if this is repetitive. I am looking for a new camera. I have pretty specific wants and I have thus far not been able to find what i am looking for. The background is that this will be replacing my trusty Contax G1, and I basically want that camera with a digital back. So, I would like digital, interchangeable lenses of good quality, compact (mirrorless most likely as SLRs are too bulky), a system that won't become obsolete, etc. More specifically, I want to control aperture and shutter speed "mechanically" meaning I don't want to toggle through an LCD screen to set them. Bonus points if the aperture control is a ring on the lens. I also am primarily intereste…

I found the ESI MAYA 44 USB at 33% off normal price here in Norway and I do need a ADC of good quality with my mini mac, does anyone have any expericence with it (http://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya44usb/)? I don't care much about the DAC, as I have a Pico comming and a Stello DA100 next to me. I know that I really want the new Apogee, but I spent a little too much lately, and the Maya is quite a lot cheaper...
