Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Started by hirsch,

My latest baby is a tiny little black and white four year old with a lot of Maine Coon in him: Ghost is a tiny little thing, weighing a bit over 21 pounds. The other cats here weren't happy about another one coming in, but he's too big for them to do anything about it. Things have calmed down, and the other cats have more or less accepted him (probably better than they accept each other). The big guy is a dedicated lap cat, and likes to help me at the computer. He's a big friendly cat, and he's finally found a permanent home.

Hello gentlemen, I originally posted this topic over at HF and got a couple of replies from those who actually enjoy and the hobby of wet shaving. So now I've come over here to a more refined(?) group of gentlemen who might also partake in the other morning ritual. Ok, so we obviously love our headphone gear and retreat to it at the end of a hard day, so this brings me to how we start our day and by that I mean shaving. For me, there's nothing better than the satisfaction I get out of a good luxurious shave and not to mention getting the day started off right. My routine to get a great shave starts with the use of a scrub that loosens up all that dead skin and s…

  10. OK, here's the deal : Back in december 2007, I bought an Oliver Powerflex 502 bass amp + cabinet for $1000. The seller, say Mr. X, wanted me to pay with a money order, which was sent to say, Mrs Y. I also asked him to take the unit to Mr. Jess Oliver, who lives near Brooklyn, for a repair job. He did and I thought that Mr. Oliver would take care of shipping but instead of that, Mr. Oliver asked Mr. X to pay for the repairs, which he did and then asked me to pay him back, also with a money order. I sent to Mrs. Y $750 to pay for repair + shipping + storage time. When she/he received the second money order, Mr. X asked me for my home address to ship it, along with a vint…

Hi Guys, Hope you don’t mind me asking this question, but just maybe you will be glad you did someday. I want to create a balancing or tuning process that helps produce an audio component that is of the very best quality. I’m thinking of cables or maybe speakers or something, any ideas? My background is in the production of bespoke machines and systems for high-tech products (automation, test & inspection). I have been working on testing RF amps for a few years, but this was for satellites and I would love to get into high-end consumer audio products. I’m not an audio expert but I can work to specs and automate iterative processes to optimise product performa…

  13. I couldn't find anywhere specific to brag about my awesome girlfriend who played Santa this year. I received a big kiss and a littman stethoscope. It was the best present ever and extremely thoughtful. I feel guilty accepting it as i know it cost her a small fortune and I'm not sure I'm worthy of such a nice instrument. Anyhow, I've been playing with it all evening and it is so much fun. What did Santa bring you this year (if you already know)?

I thought I start a new thread about what you did today to get to know some of the head casers a little better . It could be anything from saying that you did nothing, exercising, walked the dog, listened to music all day long, went to the park, went to a party, went out for dinner, read my book, etc. I'll start off. Today I had a day off . First off I played with my son, watched the movie "Cars" again, lol. Then I ran on the treadmill and did some aerobic training. Now I'm listening to my HF-1s on the Beta 22. Hope everyone had a good day

June is gay pride month. I remember my first time marching in a gay pride parade. It was 1984 and I was 23 years old. It was in Anchorage, Alaska. I had just recently come out to my family, and I was finally ready to overcome my embarrassment and stand with my friends in a public setting. It was absolutely a milestone for me after years of shame. During our march a protest group from the Anchorage Babtist Temple decided that they could not let a group of LGBTQ people come across as normal, and allow us a peaceful march. I was personally spit on and damned to hell by a very Motherly looking woman in her 40s. A few people were actually slapped and pun…

Okay, this thread is only half serious as the topic is stupid, but I'm also curious what others think. jp11801 and I were talking last night about my recent gear purging, and I told him I was going Team Minimal. In my opinion, having one main dynamic headphone, one main electostatic headphone, and one main portable headphone with accompanying rigs qualifies me. He claims that's too many, and my choices in each category eliminate me entirely. He also suggested we open up our disagreement to the peanut gallery (I guess that's you), so here it is.

Sennheiser or AKG or any of those headphone companies come up with supposedly audiophile grade wireless headphone then I believe the following would happen: 1. Big war on HF, cable vs wireless 2. Snake oil company will come up with "atmosphere treatment" so that RF will travel more freely and no interruption on the air thus increasing SQ What else you guys reckon would happens ?

  22. After the batteries in the laundry, I decided to check all the battery powered devices for corrosion/leaks last night. I have a tactical flashlight with CR123a lithium batteries in it. When I opened it up, there was black powder around the batteries. I put the batteries back in the flashlight, I tried googling this and the only thing I could find was black residue after a lithium battery explosion which seems quite toxic. I'm hoping that this is just carbon or something. The batteries work, although to guess this could be from the last pair when they went bad (they didn't explode either). Does anyone know what this might be? Should it throw away the batteries and/or f…
