I know he's ugly but he's so sweet and friendly that I couldn't resist him at the animal shelter. Don't let his gruff, wild cat like looks fool you, he's the friendliest cat I've met. He starts to purr as soon as anybody enters the rooms he's in.

H-C was down during his actual birthday, part of some Rotenberg/Ultrasone conspiracy I am sure. I had an elaborate and terrible joke constructed around not knowing who Tyll was and asking a variety of increasingly inane questions, culminating in me moving my HRBD out of the way to get a better look at his resume. Of course, seeing as how I'm starting this thread that's not exactly gonna work. I'll say this instead: It was directly because of the reviews I read of the HD-650 on the Headroom website in early 2004 that I decided to build a headphone rig. Thus began an extended and expensive journey that eventually lead me to this place. Thank you and damn you, Tyll Hert…

I guess there was a moment for all of us that got us interested in audio, electronics, science and so forth. To kick things off, this was got me going. In the UK during the 60's and 70's there was a series of educational books for children called the Ladybird books. It eventually ran to hundreds of topics, but were written in very clear language and with superb illustrations. It shows what an effect this had on me - I remember precisely the book - Magnets, Bulbs and Batteries. And thanks to the web, here it is www.vintage-radio.info/download.php?id=358 vintage 1962. I remember pretty much everything I built from that - and from the publication date I must have…

I'm heading out to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest for the day on October 21. My plane gets into Denver at 7:30 am and my plane leaves at 6:30 pm, so I figure I'll be at the show for about 7-8 hours. So, who else is going?

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wppjYDj9JUc]YouTube - Iraqi TV Debate: Is the Earth Flat?[/ame] This and the Saudi witch trial have lead me to believe that Islamic fundamentalists have yet to make it to, say, the 18th century.

I said I would post some pics so here they are I'm not sure where to put them here so I just made a new thread.. It's all shot on b&w film. The images are so contrasty because of the film I used most of the time, Technical Pan for those interested, and developed in HC110, dillution depending on kind of Tech Pan film I used. The scanner doesn't use dust correction for b&w and I was too lazy to do all the retouching today so you might catch a little dust.

Where do you guys get your packing stuff? I don't have any from stuff I've gotten, which is what I normally use, and the post office is way too expensive for the tiny amount of stuff you get.

edited just slightly to remove some names. I received the following memo from the Office of Research Safety. Please note that hazardous materials regulations have been strengthened in recent years (particularly since 9/11) and there are SERIOUS consequences for ignoring them. Fines for transporting unlabeled hazardous materials start at $15,000 and there are provisions in the regulations for criminal penalties. Date: 4/3/2006 To: Department of Chemistry From: Office for Research Safety RE: Hazardous materials on public transportation A recent report has caused some distress in our office. A student was observed on the Purple Line with a four …

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=407693&in_page_id=1770 Anyone else read about this? It's absolutely disgusting. I can't believe China allows this kind of stuff, especially with the real olympics being held there in just a couple years. You'd think they would have considered the negative publicity before staging such an event, but I guess not.

I always find this day sad, but this year is more poignant to me due to the 30th anniversary attention, etc. Growing up, I lived on the 22nd floor of the building next door to the Dakota. We saw John and Yoko with some frequency. I later went to grammar school with their son. They were unpretentious, unassuming, and decent. And for the most part, it appeared that most in the neighborhood gave them at least some space. I was in my PJs getting ready for bed the night John Lennon was murdered--I was 8 years old. I heard the shots. I didn't know what they were--amazingly I had never heard gunshots even in NYC through the 70s. They went "crack!" not that enhanced ec…

Sold my one and only bike about a dozen years ago. Getting the itch and have been looking at something to commute on and just have fun street riding. Maybe a weekend trip. Looking for a more upright riding geometry and more sport bike type responsiveness but touring bike comfort. Yea, there is no such thing but considering these bikes: Kawasaki Versys, Suzkui V Strom and a BMW F 800 GT. Haven't been for the all important test ride yet. So many bikes, so many niches. Stopped at two dealers today. Yin and yang. BMW sales person knowledgeable, good listener and had great advice. The Suzuki/Kawasaki sales person the polar opposite. Didn't know squat, ignored…
