Headphones

I was just informed by Alex that the right driver on my K1000 is "kaputz". The serial number is 6191 and I would like to know if anyone here has a K1000 with only one driver working and would be wiling to sell it "as is". As you can imagine my idea would be to make one working K1000 out of the two. Ideally your K1000 should be a mid production unit, hopefully with a serial number in the 5000 to 7000 range. Sure would appreciate hearing from someone. HELP! Thanks.

...and I get the urge to try something better. They need to be single-ended and will be driven by a WA2. Tesla T1's? LCD-2's? HD800's? I have no clue which ones will play nicely with this amp, but I'm really after something that will be a bit more fun to listen to without sacrificing details and resolution. In technical terms, this probably means low end frequencies that don't fall off as much as the 650's (that's one of my main gripe's). I'm listening to the Qualia 010 for the first time (thanks darkless!). I'm amazed by its details and resolution. I thought that dynamics were generally inferior to electrostatics in this category. The recabled L3000, recabled W5000, recabled PS-1 and SA5000 are very good, but I didn't think they were competitive vs. the HE90, HE60, SR-Omega, SR-007 and 4070. The R10 is the only one that can compete, but even so I don't think it matches the electrostats' speed and microdetails. I'm hopeful better amplification will help the R10 and other dynamics. This question will probably be a bit Head-Fi-ish, but I trust you all a lot more, so I'll try my luck...... I am hoping for some input on a decent portable/travel headphone. I have some SuperFi 5Pro, but despite trying lots of different tip options I have come to the conclusion that IEM's are not for me, so I suppose that portable closed phones are my only other option. I do already have ESW9 - pleasing tone, but they are 'slow', relatively fragile and have poor isolation. My bristly shaved head is also destroying the leather headband. OK, need your help. It's one or the other. Pairing with ZD and meridian 508.24. Which one should you go with? For me, Hp1000 is the good ole familiar girl I always knew would be there, apparently will still take me back after all the times I've ditched her, and since its familiar territory I know how she will work and know that we will go very well together. L3000, flirted with her a couple of times before, have always been impressed, never been around her long enough to really know who she is as a person though. I was able to listen to both of them for about 30 minutes and I thought they both sounded good. I think they are both in a similar league of headphone, being the best in each category. They are also around the same price. I guess the HD800 has an advantage of having more amplifiers available to be used with it. Has anybody had to chance to listen to both? What are your impressions as far as detail, being musical, or other preferences? I'm leaning towards the HD800, can anybody convince be that the Stax are better.

Folks, been searching high and low for review of this headphone but couldn't find an extensive review on it. All the infos are scattered here and there. One impression I found at HF during Dutch meet was some folks prefer this than HE60, did any of you agree with this statement? Haven't got around to ordering a K701 replacement yet. Considering AD2000 for A-T's proven noggin-friendliness. Source: PC > Fireface > Max or direct from FF Gets tossed around a lot (the K701 ended up looking very secondhand before it died, and the HD650 doesn't look a lot better). Unsure whether the AD's will hold up. If they're anything like the A900 / A1000 the chances are not so I'll avoid. Yay or nay. And why. Starting up the K340 modding thread so anyone that has modded them could offer advice, impressions on how they sound, etc can do so. I'm looking to recable one of my pairs to a 4 pin male XLR, replace the elastics, replace the grill with some other fabric and replace the earpads with velour ones.
