As a group of veteran audiophiles who have repeatedly espoused the sentiment that "end-game is the point of the game", I'm curious what that actually looks like. What air vibrators consistently end up strapped to your noggin? Or have you all abandoned headphones in favor of speakers and whiskey?

I can't believe I am starting one of these threads, but I am trying to help somebody find a $100 IEM and all I have is Innerfidelity as a guide. They do not have many new reviews and the wall of fame entries are at least a year old. Anything to add, Head-Case?

Huhumm, I thought I would never say that but I guess it's time I'd expand my vision. I am, at times, getting tired of the sucked out midrange which makes me feel like eq-ing buy I don't want that. When I walked home today I listened to Paranoid Android of Radiohead and I got scared of the hollownesss to the sound. I can't seem to listen around it anymore. I noticed the sucked out midrange long before and got the hollowness at times too but it was not noticable with all music and mood depending so I thought it was more me or the recording than the hps. A few days ago I decided to take the step up to much higher quality Audio. After researching my choices for around 200-300 dollar headphones for about 8 hours I ended up buying the Denon AH-D2000's for about $210 on amazon. My first step into high end audio was the Shure SE530 in ears which were nice, but i ran them over with my rolly chair and broke them :palm: Since then i've had the bose triport headphones and the bose in ear headphones, which have been adequate but very disappointing in terms of bass. First of all my mailman is awesome. This is what it looks like right now outside my apartment. All that snow on the deck is fresh, and it's going to continue for another 5 or 6 hours. OK, need your help. It's one or the other. Pairing with ZD and meridian 508.24. Which one should you go with? For me, Hp1000 is the good ole familiar girl I always knew would be there, apparently will still take me back after all the times I've ditched her, and since its familiar territory I know how she will work and know that we will go very well together. So it's time for me to build a new home rig. I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff much. I stopped looking at gear around when the HD800 was FotM. I've been enjoying my ES3X for quite some time now but have been missing having proper cans. My budget is around $3k for cans and an amp. I might be able to stretch it to $4k, but would really prefer to keep it down. I will probably be building a DAC over the winter/spring. I just got a pair of these. I'm not real familiar with everything that's out there in the sub-$200 range, so I can't comment on the "are they the best $200 closed back phones ever" business. But I think they're pretty good. I was looking for not-too-expensive closed back cans for my portable. Basically, they're right at home there. They do everything pretty well. My RSA Tomahawk drives 'em with ease. They're not over bright (My ears. I'm allergic to bright, so I assume that means they're really not bright. But you never know.) This is a shaky quest. I received lots of great feedback in my L3000 thread and most of it was very good advice and I'm thrilled with my purchase. Feedback from those that own/have owned/heard the R10 would be appreciated. I would especially like detailed or lengthy descriptions. Thanks. So I've been thinking of getting RS-1 (again) and I'd love to grab a vintage pair, but I also know the chance of that happening is close to nil. With that in mind, has anyone heard the new button-less RS-1? I'm just curious if there are any differences in the sound with the re-design.

Check out the state of my R10s after I got them back. I am pretty sure they were like this before they went out on loan. The foam has completed melted/congealed into a sticky mess on the wood around the drivers. There is even a bit on the driver grills. I sent these pics to Alex to see if he was willing to resurrect them. I can get new pads and foam from Mikhail. Please let's have a moment of silence for the speedy recovery of my R10s .

Well, this document would at least seem to suggest that some of the rumors that I have been hearing over the past 6 months are true. From what I've heard the rumored street price in the US is ~$1000. There's also a thread on Head-Fi about this, but I don't think there's much in the way of additional information there, just a couple of new pictures.

I'm primarily a Senn guy, though I enjoy my SR225 from time to time, kind of like a fun diversion. I'm listening to Depeche Mode's "I Want You Now" right now, the fun, upfront sound is just cool, puts a smile on my face . I've especially enjoyed them since I got my PPX3 Slam, they benefit a lot from warmer amplification. What I want is to hear the Grado sound with more clarity and bass extension. Will I get this from the RS-1? Yeah I know the price is outrageous, but there is a beater user grade pair for sale over at Head-Fi right now for under 500, and it has me thinking. My HD580 drivers (at least one) are dead and so instead of getting new drivers and fixing the old/used cans (which seem to be at least missing foamy pieces), I am thinking of picking up an HD600 from Justin for the office. I like the clamp of the HD600/650 for one - the HD580 is a little loose for me especially since it is used and a little stretched out. Before I do, I was wondering if there is anything else out there that I should consider (I am guessing no). I like that the HD600 are laid back and fairly neutral and comfortable. Interesting news from AKG. So I recently recabled my K1000 (did a damn fine job at it if I do say so myself). I was comparing them to Hirsch's Stefan Art hardwire K1000 and we noticed a decided shift in tonal balance. His had significantly more treble emphasis than mine (a little more detail and impact as well). So I thought 2 things...cable and age? I tried re-recabling them and got a little more treble but not like Hirsch's. Y'all, I picked up a set of one owner K400 on a whim recently and am enjoying them a lot, at least as a change to the STAX. Having otherwise been a STAX owner exclusively for 25 years, what else is out there new that has a similar sound to the K400 and is say <$US400 (in the US)? I have a need for another set of dynamics.
