Headphones

So I'm pretty close to graduation and I haven't really bought myself anything nice since February. I was initially going to get a very nice watch, but the last few weeks I've really been considering the L3000. It doesn't help that I didn't like them at the last Boston meet, but I'd like to give them another shot. Basically I'd like a more bassy, fun alternative to my two main headphones. I see the K1000s deficiency with rock music now that I have the HP-2. The HP-2 doesn't exaggerate bass, so it's great for those pristine recordings, but not so great for the poorly done stuff (where basslines/dynamics are buried). When I heard these were being released I just had to get a set to see if they matched the supreme crap that the original was. Now after some delays I picked the set up from the postoffice. Just got mine from Smegs. Spent about an hour getting on the O2 mk2 pads. We're in business. The craftsmanship is fantastic; this is a beautiful pair of headphones. Oh, and they sound kickass, too. EDIT: the wood is African Blackwood.

It appears the new FOTM has been selected over there; I know slwiser likes them and a few reviews say they are close to the Edition 9s. I know HC hates Ultrasones, but is the Edition 9 just plain terrible, or is it acceptable at the HFI-780 price tag?

Be very careful with any tools this close to the drivers as one slip can destroy them. You have been warned!!! First job if to remove the earpads by simply pulling onto the top edge and they come off. Also remove the spring underneath as it will only be in the way. Simply pull it out of the rubber grommet. I’m going to post this in its own thread as so many people are asking me for X9000 impressions, and it makes sense to have them somewhere where they are easy to find. I was also going to take some pictures to add to this review but I’m just wiped. Might add some later if these ever present storms let up for some good light.
