Well the Tokyo Olympics will start this Friday and even though Lance is no longer fencing I thought I might share a piece with you explaining some of the basics of the sport should you consider watching the USA fencers in action. The video was shot at Lance's former fencing studio; the fencer Ysaora trained with and fenced Lance multiple times and Lance would occasionally beat her. At the 5 minute mark you will see our friend and Lance's coach Maurizio who Lance will be visiting in Italy next Month. Ysaora is France's number one foil fencer and projected to medal. Mixed emotions here I gotta say... Fencing 4 U

So apparently hockey interest has waned quite a bit here, but wanted to start a thread for the playoffs, round 2 and on. Liking the Bruins, they were so much fun to watch this year and just got out of the first round. Toronto just matched up very well with them, and I'm hoping the regular season match-up with the Lightning carries into this series. Just finished watching the Caps & Pens game, glad Caps won this. Series will be great to watch, some great skill, physical play, and genuine dislike going on here. As a Bruins fan, hoping the Bruins get to the next round, I want to see this series go 7 games and get them all tired out Happy also to see SJS…

Refuse to use the S word. Know we have some fans of the true religion, however misguided because they don't support Chelsea. Open for memes and banter!

Rather than revive the 2014 thread I figured I'd get a new one going. Don't tell the boss, but not a lot of work is going to get done Thursday and Friday. My bracket... here goes nothing!

Getting ahead of the season with something a bit different. I think Subban is a total dick on the ice but this was quite something: $10 million donation to the Montreal Children's Hospital. Meanwhile, one of our Chicago studs is figuring out how much cash he'll need to pay the woman he may/may not have raped... At least the hawks re-signed Marcus Kruger. My faith in the 4th line is restored.

Because dammit, we need a current NBA thread. It looks like there is going to be a pair of awesome games tonight. I'm really looking forward to seeing how LeBron and Kyrie respond to a little adversity. It is crazy that every singe one of the home teams in round two has already dropped a game at home. If the Cavs go down two games I'm officially worried for them. As for Houston, if they can't beat LAC without CP3 in the lineup then they are toast. Thank god for having a DVR! should be some outstanding games.

This is probably going to be minority interest, but the precursor to American Football is Rugby. Elliptical ball and two teams of enormous brutal guys (and now women too). Rules of play are more cryptic (much) than American Football, and there is no defensive gear at all - no padding, no helmets (other than a soft one to protect cauliflower ears). Lots of injuries - it is not uncommon for a player to go off bleeding profusely from a cut, have it stitched, and go back on again. The odd broken bone, the odd concussion. Everyone has had a broken nose at some point. There are two variants of Rugby - Union and League. The rules are different. League has more in comm…

Do we have an HC fantasy hockey league? If not, any interest? If yes, I could play with you?

Well, there's a sigh of relief, huh Al? Mad Bum bowled a 300 tonight. Great job, Giants. Last night though... Kansas City vs. Oakland... man oh man, does a game like that ever make me love baseball more than ever! From the 7th inning on to the 12th, it was pretty intense. Fun to watch the range of emotions of the KC fans as well as those of the players for both teams. Incredible game, and I sure am happy for the Royals. KC has waited a long, long time. They're my favorite team still in the mix, although I don't give them good odds against the Angels. Possible close proximity World Series matchups: Angels vs. Dodgers Orioles vs. Nationals Royals vs.…

Overall smooth start to the race today without massive pile-ups that often happen in the first days. The crowds were unbelievable in Yorkshire -- such a turnout could not have been expected. Cavendish screwed it up in the last 250 meters because he was too anxious and now it seems likely that he will be out of the race altogether. Sad finish for the home crowd but Kittel is the real deal and Sagan doesn't have the same level of power but is still crafty and quite fast. I hate Cuntador but they say he is in great shape and will at least challenge Froome more than last year. It would be nice to have some others step up and create some drama. I will miss Quinta…

Congratulations to The Netherlands on a supreme thumping of Spain. I actually like a lot of the players on the Spanish team, but it is good to see the pundits squirming in their predictions. My final four included the Netherlands, along with Germany, Brazil and Switzerland. Karen disagrees about Switzerland so we will see. If the US makes it out of their group it will be a miracle, but they are probably better than their world ranking indicates.

Over the last few years this has become my favorite postseason. A new year, a new thread. Watching Game 1 of Blues and Hawks. Some good 3rd period hits and hawks are just hanging on.

As a former Ohioan, it was sad to see both Indians and Reds get eliminated. Not to mention I think it would have been interesting to see Francona back in Fenway for a series.

Congrat to Stretch on the first South African to wear the yellow jersey! Impey looks a little like you although his name is kind of the opposite of yours.
