A while back, some head-caser (I forget who) made some disparaging remarks about ambient, IDM, and drum n bass. While it is far beyond my abilities to defend Monotonous Snare Music, I do have a keen interest into the other genres. "IDM" (Intelligent Dance Music) is kind of a misnomer at this point, as virtually none of it is remotely danceable. Group at Last.fm The group is set to member approval, so once you apply any current member will be able to accept you. last.fm basically tracks what you listen to after you download the plugin for foobar2000, Winamp or iTunes. I was hugely bummed at Lala's untimely demise. Now this MOG - Millions of songs on-demand and radio that's just hard to believe ,if it lasts for more than a couple months, could be a worthy or even better replacement. For five bucks a month you get computer access to a library that looks to be comparable with what Lala had. The five bucks is unlimited streaming, all you can eat. For ten bucks, you get mobile device service similar to Slacker, with caching on the device (for Andriod and iPhone only). Now, Renato is going to think I am drunk... and he is somewhat correct, but I just had an epiphany of sorts and decided to start this thread. If there is already a similar thread on the go, I'm sorry, but I'm not searching for shit at this point. I just noticed over on the Hoffman site that the current run of Blue Note reissues on 45 RPM vinyl will be coming out on SACD shortly. That is some very cool news even though I will have to figure out whether I want to cancel the vinyl subscription, double up some, or wait and see how they compare before making a choice. I will not cancel my other subscription to the Music Matters BN reissues because those are the most gorgeous LPs ever produced. Anyway, these remasters are so awesome that anybody who likes jazz even a little should be buying these things. Apparently $30 a pop, so that is $20 cheaper than the vinyl option.

So I've been listening to more music at work (now that I have a job that lets me do that) and I've been coming across some of my favorite songs/lyrics. An entire instrumental release from NIN? Well, Trent definitely has my attention. His work on Still was amazing. Anyone else checking this out? Seems like he's embracing be free of a major label. 5 options, ranging from a free download of I to a $300 signed deluxe set of I-IV, including vinyl. I tried to order it from nin.com but it was too slow... I couldn't get through. I'll be ordering the CDs tomorrow, which is scheduled to ship April 8th. But I decided I'd go ahead and order the 256kbps .mp3 version from Amazon for $5 to hold me over. I've set up the download so it should be all set for me in the morning.
