Any recommendations for cheap HDMI to optical converters? Something like this is what I'm looking for, but less than $170 http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%201x1%20Audio%20Converter.html Basically looking to convert all my single layer SACDs to 24/88 PCM and this box aids in that with the appropriate Oppo player.

Has anyone tried these out? I think I'm going to order a pair, expensive though! Claims more refined highs and tighter bass. Hopefully they don't crumble in 2 years like other grado pads heh. http://www.ttvjaudio.com/TTVJ_Deluxe_Flat_Pads_p/ttvj000999.htm Biggie.

Hey guys, I figured posting here would give me a much more intelligent response from some trusted members I already have a Richard Gray Isogray system that is working great for my amplifiers (even though the recommendation for amps is to plug straight into the wall). My preamp (the infamous RSA B52...don't shoot me) and my Dac are plugged straight into the wall because I didn't like what I was hearing through the Richard Gray conditioning. So now, I need some power conditioning and am looking for some advice. My Dac is the Reimyo DAP 777. I'm thinking of the PS Audio Power Plant Premier (regenerator), Audience AR1P for Dac and preamp separately and the N…

I've been tempted by the Manley Skipjack selector switch for a while now. It's not your basic A/B box and seems like it can do some neat things. The reason I am thinking about it is that it looks like I'll have 2 amps and 2 sources for a while and it would be nice to be able to switch easily and on the fly. It also could be useful for comparisons when I borrow gear. That said, the Skipjack is very expensive at $900. I know it's overkill, but is it ridiculous for what it does?

So now that I've had the Sennheiser 800s since they came out and I've been using my ever faithful Headamp GS-X, I'm thinking it's time to put this over the top and finish it. I've been using the Cambridge 840c connected via XLRs to the Headamp for convenience even though I know that does nothing for me because I have a second source using the RCA inputs for SACD and DVD-A. Most likely I'm going to go through Drew at Moon Audio. A while back he had set me up with Black Dragon cables on the AKG 701s and I thought those cables that headphone out in terms of some refinement and a little bit of natural warmth which was nothing short of a miracle with those cans.…

Well I finally finished my custom Balanced Power Conditioner. I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Acme Silver plated Cryo outlets. A little Siltech wire. Now I can't wait to get my equipment back from service. Thanks Kevin.

So I'm in the middle of building a stereo system. Does anybody have experience with super el-cheapo budget interconnect and speaker cables – maybe including stuff like Audioquest and Monster products (budget < $200 total, 4 sets of interconnects and speaker cable for two speakers). I was looking at the Audioquest website and I was considering the new Big Sur – no reviews so far. I was also looking (laughing) at the Monster website as well as the no-name products from The Source (Radio Shack) and Best Buy. I remember somebody like Stereophile recommending Radio Shack speaker wire back in the day. Grover Huffman's products occurred to me, but they're priced a littl…

I need something besides IKEA bookshelves to keep my CDs in. Do any of you have anything that has a high WAF? Can be mounted to the wall or stand alone. I think I'll probably keep about 600 CDs. The other option is to chuck them all.

This cable has great tonal balance, outstanding depth and sounds way better than stock or higher-grade USB cables Music Lovers - News - Transparent Audio Introduces High-Performance USB Cable - San Francisco Home Theater, High End Audio & Video, Custom Installations, HiFi, Stereos As a bonus this over priced piece of high end audio nonsense comes complete with the requisite glowing recommendation from Art Dudley, one of the high end gods, on pages 43 & 45 of the January 2010 edition of "Stereophile". Unfortunately hip waders are NOT included.

I have a few long road trips coming up and while I enjoy listening to the radio I don't particularly care for the idea of having to find new channels every few hours. Cd player in the car only takes 1 cd and I don't have an Aux input. I have an iphone 4 and my road trip companion has an ipod touch (not sure which generation) that i would like to use to play music on but hear it through the car speakers. Never really looked much into it but I don't imagine using it much outside of road trips so don't want to spend enormous amounts of money on it. Road trip is on the 24th so would need to have in house by the 23rd preferably. +1 for Amazon prime. Any suggestions for…

For you guys who might be interested, i got the results in from the lab today of the silver contents of the TWag V1 and V2 cables and have attached a picture of the results, some of you might have seen the green twag thread on head-fi but some V1 cables have been turning green which suggested it had a high copper content so i decided to get it tested which seemed to be a mistake as i've had all sorts of accsations thrown at me since by Lee at Cryo Parts saying i have some hidden agenda and so so but the results have come in today and he has now it seems agreed to replace everyones V1 cables even if they have not turned green so contact whiplash to get yours changed for a …

Ok I have read a bunch from Barry Diament about ball bearing and air bladder isolation and I want to take the plunge. Here is what I am trying to find but without the high audio price tag any ideas where I can find stainless steel cups like that and very hard ball bearings? These are like $180 for a set of three and I am hoping to source something like it for a lot less. Any ideas?

At the risk of being lined up against a wall.... do Power Conditioners work for anyone in a typical high end headphone setup? I have a (small) amount of low level periodic but irritating static going on in my amp, and was wondering if these power line devises actually work. I live in a city and no doubt the mains is as dirty as hell! If anyone could recommend an affordable unit for 220-240v. Or tell me I am an idiot, Either is fine.

Being an electrician I came across these spec grade receptacles that they were just going to throw out. Knowing that they were not cheap and could possible make a difference to my system; I snatched them up. Skeptical... but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try them out. Well I have to say it was worth the 30 seconds to swap this guy in. Tightening as much as I could, utilizing the bottom half of the receptacle bypassing the tab I heard an improvement right away, not huge but defiantly there. My system seemed to have allot more oomph, Bass is heavier and more pronounced. The whole sound had more weight to it sounding like more power was getting through. These receptacles…

I recently added a monster power conditioner to my system and I was rather surprised at the results. (http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168069) I wasn't expecting much if any improvements as I purchased the power conditioner mostly on impulse. It made more difference in my system than I've ever gotten from swaping out ICs or changing tubes (although my hybrid isn't all that responsive to tube changes). I am curious to hear others thoughts about power conditioning.

Steve graciously made me this stand. I took a couple lousy pictures that weren't good enough to post. Nate took this one at CanJam, so I finally get to show off how beautiful it is. I think Iron Dreamer took a few good shots as well if he gets around to showing them. I also got to see Steve's work on Jay's amp and stand this weekend, and the pics I'd seen prior don't do it justice. Thanks Steve for beautifying our gear!

So i probably need to pickup two more sets of balanced xlr cables and two digital coaxial cables. My gut says mono price, not sure if the price jump to blue jeans is worth it. Figured I would ask around here where people's go to place is for cables on the cheap.

Time to start thinking about getting some XLR interconnects. Anybody want to drop some names so I can do some research? I really like the DiMarzo M-Path's I bought from Jacob, but M-Paths are not available with XLR connections. So basically I'm looking for a cable that leans toward the syrupy and warm. It would be a big plus if they have canary yellow diamonds in there somewhere, but this is not a steadfast requirement.

Cable vendor slapped for unproven claims ? The Register Thousand pound kettle cable won't sound better The Advertising Standards Authority has slapped hi-kit supplier Russ Andrews for claiming its super-duper mains cables could reduce radio interference on the power line. According to the the company, its PowerKords reduce noise in the mains supply because they are wrapped up in woven conductors, enabling the company to charge more than a grand (
